Marcus Jackson

Transplant type:  Kidney

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Marcus Jackson is awaiting a new lease on life. As a child, it was found that he had a growth on one of his kidneys. By the time he was twenty-seven years old, the growth had completely enclosed his right kidney, preventing it from receiving blood, and partially enclosed the left kidney. Marcus underwent surgery to remove the growth, and it was found that his right kidney was in complete failure, and his left kidney was only functioning at fifty percent. Marcus’ condition continued to worsen, and he was forced to begin hemodialysis at the age of forty. Dialysis leaves him exhausted and takes a toll on his quality of life. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary to his survival. Marcus must continue dialysis treatments until a kidney is found.

During such a challenging time, Marcus is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system. His beautiful wife, Angela, their two sons, granddaughter, family, and friends have been by his side every step of the way providing much needed love and encouragement. While it has been very hard for Marcus and Angela, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Marcus looks forward to the kidney transplant that will allow him to live his life fully again. More than anything, he would like to spend many more years with his loved ones, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Marcus’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Marcus. The National Foundation for Transplants has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 35 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable The National Foundation for Transplants to provide Marcus with the financial support he desperately needs.
