Mark Williams
As many of you know Mark Williams was diagnosed in 2005 with polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and has had a kidney transplant in August 2018.
During such an emotionally overwhelming time, Mark’s family cannot help but be concerned about his health. While he does not like to see them worry, he is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Alicia, and their family and friends. While Mark’s kidney transplant surgery is now behind him, he will face weeks and months of recovery, and right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $414,000.
And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, there are significant expenses related to the surgery and postoperative care. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Mark lives more than 130 miles from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. Additionally, Mark is self-employed as a home inspector, and his health causes him to have to take significant time off from work. Now that he has received a new kidney, he will have to stop working for three to five months, with no income during that time.
As a result of the financial challenges Mark and his family face, a fundraising goal of $50,000 has been set. This amount takes into consideration all of the transplant-related expenses Mark currently has, as well as the expenses he will face while he is off from work recovering from his transplant and the years of follow-up care and expensive medications that will follow his transplant.
