Matthew Meyers

Transplant Type:  Bone Marrow

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Matthew Meyers has received a second chance. On February 14, 2019, he began to feel unwell and ended up passing out.  Matthew went to the emergency room where it was found that he had a large mass in his chest. After multiple tests, biopsies, and hospital transfers, Matthew was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma. Although he underwent six rounds of chemotherapy and went into remission on August 9, 2019, his remission was short-lived. On June 26, 2020, Matthew’s scans showed his cancer had returned, and doctors said a bone marrow transplant was critical for his survival. Thankfully, he received his autologous bone marrow transplant on October, 15, 2020!

During this difficult time, Matthew is thankful for his girlfriend, Karen, and their family and friends, who have been by his side every step of the way. He wishes that they did not need to be so concerned about his health, but is grateful for their love and support. Before Matthew’s health began to decline, he enjoyed taking a yearly elk hunting trip to Colorado with his dad, working, and traveling with his girlfriend, but due to his health condition, he was forced to stop all of his favorite activities. Matthew looks forward to recovering fully from his transplant so that he will be able to feel like himself again and be able to resume a more active life. But right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Matthew’s new life comes at a very high price.

The average autologous stem cell transplant costs approximately $470,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of his transplant, Matthew still faces significant expenses related to the procedure. Matthew had to stop working due to his illness and transplant. In addition, he had to temporarily relocate for more than a month during his recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, further adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Matthew.  If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT New York Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Ste 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Matthew Meyers” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
