MATCHING GIFT CHALLENGE!

Update posted 7 years ago

We have an offer to match the next $2,000 that is donated, dollar for dollar! The first $50 was just matched - bringing us to $2,650. The match will end when we get to $6,550!

Dear friends and family,

As many of you know, this April marks the 10th anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech that claimed the lives of 32 students and educators.

My friend, Maxine Turner, was among those that lost their life that day.

In her memory, a scholarship was set up through the engineering sorority Alpha Omega Epsilon. My goal is to raise $10,000 by April 30th to mark this anniversary and help endow this scholarship.

You can read more about Max by clicking here.

Maxine was an incredible person - a fiercely loyal friend, a dedicated and loving sister, daughter, and granddaughter. I'm a better person for having known her, and her memory stays with me always. This scholarship is one of the ways that I stay connected to Maxine and her family.

I met Maxine through a summer camp that had us living on a boat, in close quarters, for weeks at a time. She quickly became my best friend through our shared experiences.  Her enthusiasm for life, her sense of humor, her kindness, and her compassion drew in everyone around her.

Max loved her time at Virginia Tech and was set to start a brilliant career in engineering. She formed close friendships with her classmates and sorority sisters in Alpha Omega Epsilon - a sorority that supports women in engineering.

Each year, the Maxine Shelly Turner Memorial Scholarship awards funds to promising young women wishing to study engineering. These students are amazing and their spirit perpetuates the memory of my dear friend, Maxine.

Once again, my goal is to raise $10,000 by April 30th to mark this anniversary and help endow this scholarship. Your contribution will make sure that Maxine's memory lives on and support aspiring young women.

Thank you!
