It takes Garra , Portuguese for persevere, to build a Theatre Company; it takes a mighty cause to nourish and sustain it – to consistently produce programming of the highest-quality production value; to attract the best talent and pay them respectable wages. We are beginning our Spring 2020 Season and Live Garra urgently needs your help to continue our artistic work.

We aspire to preserve the unique legacy of the African-American heritage; to illuminate all facets of a multi-cultural society by contributing to the survival of culturally specific Theatre. With your support, we will continue to produce plays such as "No Exit", "No One Hears the Night" and "Talking To America: One Dream at a Time," an original work that brought storytellers from many countries; "from many peoples strengths” together as Americans.

What you should know about the state of Black Theatre companies in America: Sade Lythcott, CEO of the National Black Theatre in Harlem said, “black theater companies are an endangered species … and unless drastic measures are taken, companies like NBT may not be in existence 45 years from now.”

In June, 2019 Live Garra Theatre was awarded another five-year management contract as part of a Theatre Consortium by the Montgomery County government to operate out of the Black Box Theatre in downtown, Silver Spring, Maryland.

I am asking for your financial support by providing a donation to help Live Garra reach its fund raising goal of $55,000 by May 31st, 2020 , Your tax deductible contribution of $100 or any amount your budget permits, will help us with our operating funds

As Artistic Director of Live Garra Theatre, I want to express my appreciation for your ongoing patronage, for sharing good words about Live Garra’s productions, and especially for providing financial support and believing in Live Garra’s existence as a vital cultural institution in the heart of Silver Spring.

The Hopi Elders say, “the river has its destination; we are the ones we've been waiting for.” Please make your donation now!

Thank you so much for your help! See you in 2020 at the Black Box!

Kindest regards,
