Day 10 - Tilo (C2C '18) marches proudly onto the UT Austin campus
We met Tilo three years ago as a HS Sophomore when he was as bright-eyed then as he is in this photo.
Two years ago he participated in the second Code2College cohort and demonstrated an enthusiasm for coding that was only matched by his commitment to serve and lift others up. It should be no surprise that that Summer he became the third high school Summer Intern that we placed at Indeed.com.
A year ago, he told me about his dream of launching his own #Tech company (after becoming a Longhorn and graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, of course) in giving back to the community, in the same way that he received support from Code2College.
Today, he stands before you as a Longhorn, pursuing a double-major in #computerscience and #electricalengineering in the Honors program at the Cockrell School of Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin. Oh yea, and he's also in the Marching Band. Tilo is the future, and the future is bright.
What started as a bold vision three years ago to 1) activate Tech professionals through skills-based volunteering opportunities, 2) educate and inspire local black, brown, low-income and female High School students who expressed an interest in #STEM and 3) achieve both simultaneously, has become so much more (and so quickly). And now, the vision is being fulfilled: we have college-going program alumni!
Our alumni are attending elite programs at Georgetown University, the University of Texas, Georgia State University, Texas A&M, UT Dallas and many more.
This upcoming year, we'll have 100 program alumni who will be attending college and we'd like to launch a program to provide an annual $300 textbook scholarship.
Through your support, we can continue to propel these students to achieve so much more. In just a few years, our students will become YOUR colleagues.
Any and all help is appreciated and we look forward to sharing the progress of some of those alumni this month. Help us hit our goal if $30,000 by October 31st!
