Megan Smith
Transplant Type: Liver
Megan Smith is fighting for her life. On March 31, 2015, she was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. Doctors didn’t think she’d last the night, but Megan promised her mother she would. She survived, but doctors now say a liver transplant is critical to her survival.
During this difficult time, Megan is grateful for the love and support of her family and friends. Her illness has been hard on her family, but her mother has been a saving grace by taking care of Megan. If there is any positive to her diagnosis, it’s that it has brought Megan and her mother and sister closer together.
More than anything, Megan looks forward to receiving a transplant that will allow her to take her life back. She plans to use her second chance at life to inspire others by giving back to her community and helping the suffering. Her Boston terrier is like a child to Megan, and she cannot wait to spend time volunteering with rescue dogs when she puts this disease behind her. She wants nothing more than to feel better and live her life to the fullest. But, right now, she needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $740,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Megan had to stop working due to her declining health, further adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Megan. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Megan Smith” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
