Melody Kniss Stone

Transplant Type: Double Lung

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Melody Kniss Stone is fighting for her life. She suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and a year and a half ago, Melody learned that this disease had destroyed her lungs. Now, doctors say a double lung transplant is critical to her survival. While awaiting her transplant, she relies on an oxygen tank for every breath.

During such a challenging time, Melody is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system. Her husband, Chuck, their two children, and five grandchildren have been by her side every step of the way providing much needed love and encouragement. While it has been very hard for Melody and Chuck, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life.

Before her health began to decline, Melody loved taking walks, swimming, and playing with her grandchildren, but these days her activities are quite limited. Melody looks forward to feeling like her old self again and spending time with her family and friends. More than anything, she wants to spend many more years watching her grandchildren grow up, but right now, she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Melody’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average double lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplants, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Melody.

If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT California Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Melody Kniss” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
