Meng Yang
Transplant Type: Kidney
Update: Meng received a transplant on May 14, 2020!
Meng Yang, is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2015, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Unfortunately, kidney disease runs in his family. Meng is now on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. Thankfully, a matching donor has been found, and he is undergoing evaluations now to hopefully donate a kidney to Meng later this year.
During this difficult time, Meng is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Sarah (Ka), and their family and friends. Meng’s illness is a struggle for Sarah, and she has had to stop working in order to take care of him. They don’t have any immediate family in the area, and although friends and church members have helped them, it can still be overwhelming. Meng looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. He enjoys reading the holy scriptures, spending quality time with his loved ones, and attending church. Many of the normal, day-to-day activities that Meng used to enjoy are now too exhausting. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can feel like himself again, have his life return to normal, and be able to go back to work. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Meng lives 70 miles from his transplant center and traveling back and forth for appointments is expensive. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. His health and dialysis schedule forced him to stop working in healthcare, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Meng. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Meng Yang” on the memo line.
