The Mental Health Warrior Film and Entertainment Festival is to be a celebration of film and television that breaks down barriers when it comes to mental health. Two theaters at Flix Brewhouse in Madison, WI will show films and TV episodes Friday and Saturday May 17th- 18th 2024 during Mental Health Awareness Month. The festival is raising funds for mental health programs and services.
One theater would show short and feature length independent films from across America that either tell stories about mental health or have been made by creators who have overcome their own mental health struggles. Submissions will be accepted via FilmFreeway.com once the location and date are secured. Preference will be given to films made in Wisconsin.
The festival will feature a block of films that talk about mental health in subgroups that normally don’t get the attention that they should. In addition, the festival will show short films about the black, Latino, Native American, and Hmong experiences when it comes to mental health.
The second theater would show second run studio films and television episodes. The producers are in talks with Swank Motion Pictures about screening What About Bob, A Beautiful Mind and Girl Interrupted. There is also the possibility of a horror block, showing three horror films that dealt with mental illness in a sympathetic light. Psycho 2, Nightmare on Elm Street 3, and a new independent film Fang that was created by a fellow mental health warrior. Other ideas include a panel of movie experts and mental health experts to talk about the history of mental illness and film, with celebrity guests who were involved in the films making an appearance.
The Festival is also offering naming rights for the theaters at Flix Brewhouse, with the opportunity to name the theater after a business or in memory of a loved one who passed. These names would be used in the programs and in all marketing for the event. Name rights info:
- Friday lounge $300
- Friday theater 1 $825
- Friday theater 2 $1125
- Saturday lounge $900
- Saturday Theater 1 $2450
