Mike Crawford

Transplant Type: Heart

Update: Mike received a transplant on April 2, 2020!

Mike Crawford is fighting for his life. In 2018, he began to experience health issues. Initially, doctors thought it was his gallbladder, but an EKG and Echocardiogram revealed that his heart was only functioning at 12%. Mike was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at that time. They attempted to treat it with medication, but it didn’t work. Doctors now say a heart transplant is critical to his survival. Last year, he received a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) or “artificial heart” which helps his heart pump while he waits for a donor heart to become available.

During this difficult time, Mike is grateful for the love and support of his partner, Tina, and their family and friends. Between them, they have six children and fifteen grandchildren, and his illness causes a lot of worry for the family. Mike looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him more years with his family and allow him to be more active. He enjoys riding motorcycles, fishing, going for walks, and traveling, but his health limits his activities now. Mike wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can enjoy a more active life with his family, swim in the ocean, resume working, and live his life to the fullest. But right now he needs your help.

The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Mike’s declining health prevents him from working, further adding to his financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Mike. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Mike Crawford” in the memo line.
