Michael Tarber
Transplant Type: Kidney
Michael Tarber is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2018, he was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of kidney disease. Michael is on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Michael is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Stephanie, and their family and friends. He has a one-year-old daughter, and his illness prevents him from being the active husband and father he longs to be. Michael looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him back his energy and free him from dialysis. He used to enjoy riding bikes with his wife and daughter, hiking with his dogs, and volunteering to teach kids computer coding. Unfortunately, his health prevents him from doing those things now. Michael wants nothing more than to be healthy again so he can return to work, travel with his family, and have his life go back to normal. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Michael still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Michael is an accountant, and had to stop working due to his health, further adding to his financial burdens.
