Let's try this again, 2021-style:
Barefoot's mission is to cultivate relationships between individuals and families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds through summer camps. Growing up, summer camp had a profound impact on my childhood and on the adult I have become.
I have volunteered with Barefoot Republic since the summer of 2016 for both day camp and overnight camp. Serving at Barefoot has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined possible. The campers teach me how to navigate new relationships while reminding me to remember my child-like nature. Meanwhile, the staff teaches me grace and courage. I hope to never stop growing, which is why I am excited to be participating in my first half-marathon by running (or walking) the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Nashville, TN in April 2021.
This year, I am additionally motivated by the life of Jonathan Odine. I met Jonathan during my first year at Barefoot. I was in awe of his larger-than-life spirit. Over the years, I got to know Jonathan through day camp and overnight camp. His spirit may have been larger-than-life, but his heart was even bigger. I miss him dearly and run in his memory.
I hope you will join me on this journey, supporting me through my training while making a difference in a prospective camper's life. Should you consider donating, your money will go directly to the Barefoot Republic scholarship fund, giving campers the opportunity of a lifetime to experience summer camp.
