It's our 25th Anniversary and my 3rd and if you trust me, this group and our work is exemplary.

I am extremely proud of the work we are doing to combat inequality in education. I am so privileged to have received the education I did. I am embarrassed to admit that I was unaware of the difference in the experience between public and private education, in particular, urban school districts. My kids were fortunate to attend public schools in Manchester, MA, one of the top public school systems in Massachusetts so it wasn't until I started working at Mi that I learned about the enormous challenges facing these urban school districts.

The team at Mi includes over 60 people, all of whom are dedicated to trying to impact that inequality. They represent the most thoughtful, caring, hard working team of which I have ever been a part. They do not settle for good enough and spend endless hours looking for ways to overcome the dysfunction that has mired our schools for longer than I've been around. They don't give up and although we've had pockets of success, there's much more to come.

I ask you to believe in me when I ask for your consideration to support our work. Give what you're comfortable with and know that you have my word that it will have an impact on educational equity.

I'd love to connect with any and all of you to share more about what we do and hear about what's happening in your lives. I feel so lucky to have landed at Mi....I pledge to do all I can to help these kids level the playing field. Thanks very much for your consideration.

Here's a little about the campaign should you want to read more:

Mass Insight Education & Research (Mi) is celebrating 25 years of positively impacting millions of students and thousands of teachers across the country.  Donations raised as part of our $25 for Mi25 campaign will help us accelerate our work – ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities, supports, and access to quality education. Every dollar counts in this effort!

Your gift will help us bring transformational change to students, teachers, and schools through our innovative and impactful programs, including:

  • Our Exam Fee Subsidies support low-income students by providing financial assistance to alleviate costs associated with Advanced Placement® (AP) STEM and English exams – combating the negative influence that income inequality has on academic opportunity.
  • Our Teachers of Color Advisory Council (TOCAC) promotes the recruitment and retention of teachers of color. The power of representation is immeasurable in the academic and social trajectory of students, whose personal narratives are shaped by the spaces where they see – or, too often, do not see – themselves reflected. The TOCAC acts as both an advisory group and a community space to build the pipeline of teachers of color in our students’ classrooms.
  • By listening to voices of each community, our Equity Audits support schools and districts as they examine systems and structures that hinder equitable opportunities and outcomes.
