Mutiny Radio is a collective-run, non-profit community radio station located at a storefront in the Mission District of San Francisco. We host and broadcast live musical performances, poetry, comedy, theater and interviews with the artists, activists, and thinkers that live, work or come through the Bay Area and deserve to be heard.
On June 11th, 2011, Mutiny Radio was launched from the willful DJ Survivors or Pirate Cat Radio & Cafe, creating a permanent broadcast home for the Mission District radio institution. In February 2011, Pirate Cat Radio went off the air after an ownership dispute disrupted the operations of the station.
The DJs and interns who were a part of the station at that time formed the PCR Collective to maintain the amazing community that had formed at the station. The Collective built a new website and internet radio stream and continued to operate an interim station while the ownership status of Pirate Cat Radio was resolved.
When it became clear that Pirate Cat Radio would not be returning to the air in its previous form, the surviving DJ’s began laying the plans for the launch of a new station.
Since then Mutiny has continued to provide a space for free speech, creative expression, music, theater, comedy and more. We are happy to say the station is now thriving, thanks to the hard work of its director, all its past and present DJ’s and the community at large.
