Every winter, TNYA uses the national USMS One-Hour Swim competition as an occasion to raise money for charities that affect our community. We compete to see how far we can swim in an hour, and get pledges and donations for causes that matter to us. This began at the height of the AIDS crisis, to raise money for medical bills for members of our team fighting the disease; now we work to spread the good will around.

My swim will be on February 29, and I hope to swim close to 4500 yards in an hour, so please consider sponsoring me per yard to maximize your donation. For every $50 you donate, you receive an entry in the raffle for round-trip JetBlue tickets between any two destinations the airline serves!

This year we’re raising money for two wonderful LGBT organizations:

  • The Alliance for Positive Change, formerly the AIDS Service Center NYC, which we've supported for many years, helps New Yorkers living with HIV and other chronic health conditions get the medical care, peer support, and housing assistance they need to achieve health, happiness, and stability.

  • The New York LGBT Bar Association provides free legal services to more than 1,000 low-income and vulnerable LGBTQ+ New Yorkers annually, with clients ranging from homeless youth to senior citizens on issues including housing, employment, discrimination, family law, and more.
