Briarwood Cares Holiday Campaign – First Tee School Program 

Last year members of Briarwood supported First Tee — Central Iowa with monetary donations as well as clubs, bags, and balls to support their summer youth programs. As a golf club, what better way to give back and pay it forward than to support the next generation? This year we’d like to take it a step further and help First Tee become a part of Ankeny Schools! 

First Tee’s School Program is currently in 10,000 elementary schools across the nation and 22 schools in Central Iowa, including North Polk, Altoona, Waukee, and Des Moines. Educators in Ankeny are ready to adopt the program and share their core values all year long!  

How does the School Program work? 

The First Tee School Program introduces the game of golf and teaches the basic motor skills required as well as the values of the game. This curriculum is integrated with First Tee’s Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits. 

How much does it cost? 

$3,250 is all it takes to get the program going in Ankeny elementary schools through their physical education classes. The cost of the program includes training, lesson plans, equipment, and access to digital resources that connect schools to others across their network. 

What equipment do they use? 

First Tee recognizes that early success and fun are the keys to creating interest for the game. The equipment used is modified, developmentally appropriate golf equipment consisting of over-sized clubs, tennis-style balls, and a variety of targets. Each school set contains enough equipment to work with up to 48 students at a time. 

Why add the First Tee School Program to our physical education curriculum? 

To create more lifelong lovers of the game, of course! 

What can you do? 

Use the Donate button to donate any amount you choose to First Tee — Central Iowa. QR codes will also be available in the clubhouse throughout the holiday season for easy access via your phone. Any money raised above the $3,250 required will be used to sponsor youth in next summer’s programs.
