Update: Nannette received a heart transplant on March 18, 2018!
Nannette Fox is fighting for her life. She became ill due to a virus in her heart, and was diagnosed with chronic heart failure (CHF) when she was 35. Although she was able to control her condition with diet and medication for twenty years, her condition has continued to get progressively worse. Now doctors say a heart transplant is critical to her survival.
This has been an extremely challenging time for Nannette and her husband, Frederick, their children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Before her health began to decline, Nannette enjoyed swimming, taking baths, and doing may other activities that most people take for granted. These days, her activities are extremely limited. She has a heart pump that is helping her survive until she can receive her new heart, and she is just thankful for every day that God gives her. More than anything, she simply wants to lead a normal, healthy life with her family. But right now, she needs your help.
Unfortunately, Nannette’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price. The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, she still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they’re as important to her survival as the transplant itself.
When she receives her transplant, Nannette and Frederick must temporarily relocate 130 miles from their home to be near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging. Because of her health challenges, she had to stop working, adding to the financial strain.
