Nark Kumaravelan is fighting for his life. In 2018, prolonged piercing chest pains suppressed his ability to breath. He was rushed to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with chronic heart failure.  Although doctors removed 1 of 4 blockages, 3 were inoperable preventing his heart from supplying blood to the rest of his body. At the age of 48, the inability to filter and replenish sufficient blood to vital organs led to Nark's sudden and unexpected battle with end-stage kidney failure.

A father of a 7-year old son, a husband of a loving wife and a lifelong vegetarian, the diagnosis of heart failure compounded with kidney failure were mentally and physically devastating. In November 2020, Nark and his family finally received some news worth celebrating. Nark was matched with both a kidney and heart. One week before Thanksgiving, Nark received his lifesaving transplant. But, his fight is not over.

During this difficult time, Nark is grateful for the love and support of his wife, son, family and friends.  He is looking forward to a successful recovery that will restore his energy and allow him to be an active father, assist his wife with their health juice bar and enjoy being physically and socially active again.  But, right now, he needs your help.

The average cost of a heart and kidney transplant is over $2 million. Even with health insurance, Nark faces significant expenses related to the surgery.  Post-transplant medications are very expensive.  They are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. He needs your help today.

How you can help. The National Foundation for Transplants is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of transplant related expenses for Nark. National Foundation for Transplants have been assisting transplant patients with advocacy and fundraising support for more than 37 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable the foundation to provide Nark with the financial support he desperately needs.
