This is a difficult time for all of us. It is especially difficult for live theatre. We check daily to see when it will be possible to welcome you back to our theatres so you can share with our performers and other audience members stories about the human condition. Theatre exists to inspire, unite, educate and entertain. Theatre is an experience unlike any other. As Executive Director of Theatre Charlotte and President of the Board of NCTC, I am keenly aware of the value of our statewide theatre service organization. NCTC serves theatre on all levels in our state - middle and high school, college and university, community and professional. NCTC serves as the advocate for our theatres locally, regionally, state-wide and nationally. NCTC hosts the middle and high school play festivals, serving hundreds of NC students. NCTC hosts the Producing Gathering, the premier state gathering of theatre leaders from around our state. This provides theatre leaders and staff members with the opportunity to learn from other professionals, share ideas, see old friends and meet new ones. Theatre Charlotte has learned and adopted many new ideas and practices from the Producing Gathering.
As this is my last year on the NCTC Board of Directors, I hope you can find it in your heart (and your wallet) to donate to this important organization.
In responding to all that we are facing, I am dispensing with cutesy perks. Any amount you can donate up to $100, I'll give you a thank you on Facebook and Instagram. Any amount between $101 and $249, I'll do a video thank you on social media. And, my concession to some silliness, if you donate $250 or more, I will humble myself and sing for you on social media.
Even though theatres are currently closed, NCTC is working hard on their behalf, so we are come out of this even stronger and welcome all of you back to share our stories.
