Neema International is nonprofit organization dedicated to investing in lives of Tanzania’s promising youth through education and sustainable building projects. Our projects are based in Uru, a remote village located at the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The state of education in Tanzania is failing tremendously, and children in rural communities are the most greatly affected. Neema International’s mission is to break down the cycle of poverty on a micro level with for each child and family that we invest in. We believe that providing them with access to high quality education, nutrition, healthcare and social work services, these children will go on become successful and productive members of their community, leading their country to brighter future. Through donations and sponsorship-based funding, we have reached over 300+ children and youth through our projects. Read more about our projects below or check out our website, https://www.neemainternational.org/
Our biggest project, Uru Academy, is a pre-and-primary school that provides the nurturing care and quality education needed to continue on to secondary school and higher education. Uru Academy is a sustainable, full-service early childhood facility, and it provides services for babies as young as six months to children of twelve years. Upon completion of their studies at Iru Academy, Neema will continue to sponsor these children through their secondary and tertiary studies.
At Uru Academy, there are six classrooms, currently educating about one-hundred children. ‘Full-service’ describes the many services beyond education we provide to the community, including healthcare, food and water, clothing and social work services, and over forty working staff, all locally hired. Compared to the local government schools’ student to teacher ratio of 80:1 or in preschool with numbers as high as 140:1 , Uru Academy is proud to have 1 teacher for every five to seven students. Our teachers are remarkable and have a special connection with each of their students. During recess, you can count on seeing them running around playing games and laughing alongside their students- these positive adult child relationships are very unique to Uru Academy and have begun developing in each of our students’ homes and their parents have also gained tremendous knowledge and experience through being an Uru Academy Parent.
Uru academy was built to provide extremely high quality education and other opportunities to the children of Uru for free- we wanted them to be able to access the same things children from higher socio-economic status families were able to... in order for these kids to attend for free, we match each of them with an outside sponsor to cover the amount needed per child for running the school. Due to the covid-19 economy and so many people loses their jobs, we have unfortunately lost 8 sponsors for students at Uru Academy. Please consider contributing ANY AMOUNT here to help us cover the running expenses for these students for the 2021 school year, which begins in January.
If you are interested in sponsoring a child for 2021 or in future years, we would be thrilled. We are always in dire need of additional sponsors so we can help more students in need. Sponsorship runs from $1200 to $3500 a year based on the student’s level of study. Partial sponsors are welcome! If you want to be a sponsor, please email info@neemainternational.org
Thank you all for your tremendous generosity! It means so much to all of us!
