Michael J. Williams
Transplant Type - Kidney
In 2005, Michael was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure, and doctors now say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting his transplant, he endures regular dialysis treatments, which take a toll on his quality of life.
Not only has this been a difficult time for Michael, but it’s also been hard on his wife, Faye, and their four children, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His activities are limited, so he often has to miss out on things with the family, and he can no longer enjoy water aerobics, traveling, and playing sports the way he used to. He dreams of the day when he can return to the activities he enjoys with his family and friends, but right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant itself, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
When he receives his transplant, Michael must temporarily relocate more than 100 miles from his home to be near the hospital during recovery. This will cause him to incur additional, substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Michael. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W.
