Nikkey Rush Freeman
Transplant Type: Kidney
Nikkey Rush Freeman is awaiting a new lease on life. While her kidney function has been deteriorating for over a decade, she was recently diagnosed with renal failure. Sadly, there is family history of this illness; Nikkey lost both her mother and maternal grandfather to renal disease. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to her survival.
During this difficult time, Nikkey is grateful to be surrounded by family and friends, especially her daughter. While she is disappointed that her family has to be worried about her health, she is grateful for their unwavering love and support. Nikkey is often exhausted due to her declining health, which makes it difficult to enjoy her favorite activities. She loves to write and spend time with her daughter when she feels well enough.
After she receives her transplant, Nikkey looks forward to living a full life without fatigue. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $335,000. And that’sonly the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Nikkey still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
When she receives her transplant, Nikkey will have to travel over 100 miles to stay near the hospital in Dallas as she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging for her and her caretaker. Unfortunately, she is on disability and unable to continue her work as a registered nurse, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Nikkey. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the Texas Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Nikkey Rush Freeman” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
