The New Mexico School for the Arts Jazz Combo, directed by Orlando Madrid, makes its Nationally recognized debut selected to perform at the 2019 New York City Jazz Festival taking place April 12 - 15th. The NMSA student musicians are the only and the first group from New Mexico to participate in this festival and competition, which includes other high school, youth jazz bands, and vocal jazz groups from around the nation.

New York City Jazz Festival finalists are selected through recorded auditions reviewed by a panel of nationally-renowned jazz educators. Hosted at the world-famous Symphony Space, the NEW YORK CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL is designed to give instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles the opportunity to perform as part of a ticketed daytime performance, receive comments from a panel of vocal and instrumental jazz experts, have a private clinic with one of them, and attend an evening performance of select professional musicians.

In order to ensure that NMSA students can take part in this amazing opportunity, we need your help. The Music Department is raising funds to cover traveling, lodging, and registration fees for the trip.

Donations of every size are welcome and greatly appreciated--every amount helps us get closer to our goal! Please consider sharing this cause with extended family, friends, and your community. By working together, we can make this opportunity become a reality to foster an experience that these hard working and passionately talented students deserve!
