Norm Heraty

Transplant Type: Double Lung

Update: Norm received a transplant on October 5, 2019.

Norm Heraty is awaiting a new lease on life. He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and severe emphysema. Norm’s lung function has sharply declined over the past year and is now only functioning at a 20-25% capacity. He requires the assistance of supplemental oxygen in order to breathe. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to his survival.

During this difficult time, Norm is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Karen, and their family and friends. Norm and Karen have two grown children and three grandsons, and his illness prevents him from being the active husband, father, and grandfather he longs to be. His family worries a lot about him, and he is unable to travel to visit them now due to his health. Norm looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to breathe freely again. He enjoys being outdoors, but his health prevents him from taking part in any activities now. Norm wants nothing more than to be healthy again so he can go for walks and do things without gasping for breath. But right now, he needs your help.

The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of his transplant, Norm faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Norm lives nearly 150 miles from his transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Norm. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Arizona Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Norm Heraty” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
