OUR BACKGROUND: Why Oda Foundation is a critical organization in rural Nepal
ABOUT US (Read more about our journey, data on impacts, and rural Nepal's unique challenges on our website.)
Oda Foundation, headquartered in rural Kalikot, Nepal, provides support and infrastructure for community initiatives in healthcare, education, and livelihood. That includes healthcare at little to no-cost, a birthing center, and full-scale women's health supports from perinatal care to menstrual hygiene advocacy and materials.
THE ODA FOUNDATION IMPACT (Read more in our 2021-2022 Impact Report.)
Whether connecting local women and girls to life-altering education, or preventing childhood deaths from bacterial and viral disease: Oda Foundation has established life-changing services in Kalikot.
In 10 years, you have helped us:
- Tirelessly establish country-wide partnerships with the Ministry of Health and government agencies, and dozens of non-profits including Save the Children;
- Serve over 160,000 patients in our clinic and our emergency response network, plus thousands more with community-wide programs on public health, menstrual advocacy and hygiene, and mental health;
- Create educational opportunities for more than 5,000 local children and a scholarship programs for girls;
- And above all, we have catalyzed the possibility of a full government-supported community center in a rural Nepal location.
THE NEXT CHAPTER: 2023 onwards
It has always been our plan to transition into a fully Nepali-led organization. From our first pharmacy in a cowshed, with tarps laid over walls and medicine walked in from miles away, we have had quite the journey. At 10 years, we are taking steps to sustain this work with carefully transferring operations, programs, and funding to a fully Nepali-led team and partner organizations. Learn more details in our 10-year anniversary letter.
