When I look at a picture of the rainforest, I can see why they are called the earth's lungs. This year I am doing a fundraiser for the Pachamama Alliance because I feel passionately that saving forests is one of the key actions we can take to decrease the impact of CO2 on our climate. The Alliance is not only working with the indigenous local people to protect the Amazonian rainforest, but is also actively working towards a post-carbon future, which means leaving fossil fuel in the ground!

I am combining my birthday fundraiser with my fundraiser for the Long Dance, a  72-hour ritual dance to honour the earth and all living things during  the Summer Solstice.  This is a give-away ceremony and, therefore, participants are required to raise a minimum of £350 for any project or projects for which they wish to dance. I would welcome any donations to help support the Achuar tribe of the Ecuadorian Amazon and their neighbouring tribes to protect the rainforest, our earth's lungs, from oil and other extractive industries that are systematically destroying it. With your donation, you become a participant in The Long Dance ceremony and you will be with me as I dance.

Here is some background on the Long Dance from the School of Movement Medicine Website (www.schoolofmovementmedecine.com): "The Long Dance ceremony... is an opportunity to spend some time remembering that our own personal wellbeing is connected to the wellbeing of the planet, and to dedicate our dance to all our relations, past, present and future. The Long Dance has so far raised more than $500,000 for a whole host of magnificent projects. Our central project is to support the Pachamama Alliance, an organisation called into being by the indigenous people of the Ecuadorian Amazon to protect the forest and to change the ‘dream of the North.’ Our ceremony in 2019 will once again be honoured by the visit of Manari Ushigua, the leader of the Sapara Nation of the Amazon."

The following inspiring words are from the Pachamama Alliance's Web page. (Please visit www.pachamama.org for more information on their conservation and education efforts.):

"The coming decade will undoubtedly be a turning point for humanity. The choices we humans make will impact the evolution of all life on the planet. Pachamama Alliance aims to be a powerful presence in the world, offering a vision of a future that is sustainable, just, and fulfilling for all humans and preserves the blessings of nature for all beings. We firmly believe that humanity possesses the resources and solutions to solve our global crises. Our work is to galvanize and mobilize the actions that we can and must take to replace the old story of separation and competition with a new story of interconnection, cooperation and love. Our mission is to foster and establish what ecotheologian Thomas Berry calls “a mutually-enhancing human-Earth relationship.” This is the great work of our time."
