We're getting MARRIED!!

We are absolutely in love with our rescue Maizie. We believe in the importance of rescuing animals to give them the life they deserve. We don’t know the first 18 months of Maizie’s life but we have a feeling it was rough. By giving her our hearts she has given us hers. She has gone from a skittish, somewhat hyper dog into a more relaxed, confident and secure dog. That’s not to say she doesn’t still have a “moment” but they are the exception not the norm.

I have known about Homeward Trails since I moved to Arlington 12 years ago when I met the founder Sue Bell through a community organization. I started volunteering with Homeward Trails when we were thinking about adopting. In April of 2020 I went on a pick- up trip for Homeward Trails to Charlottesville, Virginia where a group of volunteers picked up dozens of cats and dogs from shelters in Southern Virginia to relocate to Homeward Trails in hopes they would have a better shot at finding a forever home.   

After we dropped the animals off at the shelter I transported two dogs to their fosters. One of the dogs was named “Springer”.   Sue and I laughed and played with Springer before I left with her. When I got home I told Chuck about this adorable dog I met that I wish we could adopt. The next morning the foster called me and asked if I would be interested in adopting her. Chuck and I went over there and the next morning she was ours. We renamed her Maizie. She is our love bug and the three of us are a full and happy family.
