Kevin's Medical Care Fundraiser

Kevin is a 6 year old Rat Terrier who is blind in one eye and had to have surgery to remove his other damaged eye.  Before he found his way to Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) Kevin was a stray in Illinois and ended up in a high volume animal control facility. Due to space and his medical condition, sadly he was not a candidate for adoption.  The Rat Terrier Rescue, although committed to helping him, was unable to secure a foster home for Kevin.  Lucky for him, someone touched by his story at animal control made calls in an attempt to help find a caring place for him.  EBHS, known for our reputation for helping animals that might not otherwise have a chance, was contacted. 

 Since we had the space, we felt compelled to help Kevin, despite his medical issues.  We are all in challenging times but EBHS continues to fulfill our mission and help dogs like Kevin, who without us might not have a chance. This is what EBHS is all about! 

 Kevin was transported to an emergency, temporary foster home where he could quickly receive the medical attention he needed for his eye which was very painful according to the medical professionals who examined him.  He also needed additional medical care including updates on vaccines, heartworm testing, neutering, receiving pain meds, and eye drops. Of course we couldn't forget the microchip so he would never be a stray again! The post op surgery care included several days at the vet clinic where their caring staff monitored Kevin to ensure his surgery was successful, his pain managed, and he was healing well.  

 Although the hard times are behind Kevin, he will need follow-up care including suture removal and recheck on his remaining eye.  Kevin, although already an angel according to his foster home and all that meet him, will also be getting an actual "halo" designed for blind dogs to help him safely navigate his environment in the future.

We are hoping that you can help Kevin by donating to his medical care fundraiser. We do have some very exciting news; the Rat Terrier Rescue has been very appreciative of EBHS and has graciously agreed to match up to $500 for his care!  So every dollar you donate will be doubled!

 The cost of medical expense for Kevin is estimated at $1,500.  With the generous matching funds of $500 we are hoping we can all come together to help raise the additional funds Kevin needs for his care—can you please help us achieve a long happy life for Kevin?

 Kevin’s current foster home has shared he is a gentle soul who is quiet, calm, and just wants a soft, safe place to nap.  Thanks to so many people who have helped Kevin thus far, we know he has a safe, bright future ahead of him.   Please help us secure the funds needed to complete his medical care and find him his new home.
