1st Day of Spring Update
WOW today is the 1st day of Spring and 72 day POST Transplant! Otis received his kidney transplant on 1/7/2021. Since that time he's had one other surgery and 3 biopsies... what a journey! We couldn't be happier knowing that his body has not rejected his new kidney, in the midst of every challenge. Thank you so much to everyone who has given both, one time and multiple contributions thus far! His body has endured MUCH throughout this process, even now he is in the midst of his 3rd hospital stay receiving a much needed treatment plan and observation . I am so glad to say that in the midst of all that he's endured he is doing well and he's in good spirits. He still has a ways to go to be completely out of the woods, therefore we appreciate your continued much needed prayers! Know that we are forever GRATEFUL for your charitable support! During this time when neither of us are able to work like we want, your support has helped us more than you know! We waned to say THANK YOU and let you know that we are praying; God will continue to BLESS you for your generosity!

Otis Johnson, Jr.
Transplant Type: Kidney
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Otis Johnson is awaiting a new lease on life. When he was forty-five years old, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Two years later, his kidneys began to shut down, and Otis had to begin regular dialysis treatments. Since that time, he has undergone a successful heart valve replacement and has been able to stop taking blood pressure medication by making healthier life choices, but his kidney function did not rebound. Otis has been in end stage renal failure for more than four years now, and doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. Otis will have to continue receiving dialysis treatments until a new kidney is found.
Otis is thankful for his NEW WIFE (as of 11/20/2020), their fourteen children and twelve grandchildren; with one on the way. He wishes they did not need to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to decline, Otis enjoyed being physically active, and spending time with his family and friends, but these days his activities are extremely limited. He looks forward to being healthy enough to do the things he loves, and to spend many more years making memories with his loved ones, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Otis’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
According to the Milliman Research Report, the average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Otis. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Oklahoma Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Ste 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Otis Johnson” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
