Post Surgery Update!!!
Tinsley underwent her first hip surgery on the morning of Tuesday, March 16th, 2021. She did amazingly well through it all & had the best attitude through it all. She has the an incredible personality that charms everyone she comes in contact with from hospital staff to everyone else- one of the nurses dubbed it "the Tinsley Effect" π€£ that she can bring joy and charisma to all settings, even after a major surgery.
We care all in awe of this girl and her courage. & are looking forward to her getting this service dog to meet her needs and her her constant companion... plus the added layer of the "Tinsley Effect" we know it will bring too β€ I can't believe we are over half way to falling funded on this service dog and thank you doesn't see like quiet enough, but thank you, thank you, thank you. All the support we have received has been amazing as we can't thank you all enough πΆπ
Tinsley has partnered with 4 Paws for Ability to get a service dog! This soon to be best friend for Tinsley will be such a great addition for her as she learns and grows to help her with all sorts of things. With the full support of her doctors, therapists, and the hospital staff we are looking forward to this service dog helping her with different daily task like navigating curbs, stairs, and other elevation changes, it will also help by giving her some extra stability when she is out and about walking or when she needs to get up from the floor too. Not only will this doggo be able to help her with her mobility it will also be able to accompany her to all of her doctors appointments, her weekly full day infusions at the hospital, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and any other surgeries or outings. This doggy will be a great social bridge for Tinsley out in the world to navigate her disease in public.
Tinsley was diagnosed at 15 months old with a metabolic disease called Mucopolyscharidosis type IV A also known as Morquio A Syndrome. This very rare, and progressive disease effects her ligaments, bones, and organs due to the lack of the GALNS enzyme. This causes GAGs, which are long sugar chains, to build up into a jelly like substance inside her body because there is no GALNS to break them down. That "jelly" is stored through out her body causing complications like skeletal issues (she has hip dysplasia and will be undergoing a hip reconstruction surgery in mid march, and kyphosis in her back), short stature (the average height for a female with Morquio is 3.5 ft tall), corneal clouding, weak tooth enamel, higher rate of respiratory infections, ear infections, joint elasticity, and many other complications. Each Tuesday Tinsley gets to spend her day with some of her best friends who happen to be nurses at our local hospital for a 6 hour enzyme replacement therapy that helps her body get the enzyme it is lacking! We are so thankful that this therapy is available for Tinsley, even though it is currently the se
cond most expensive medication in the US today.
We are so excited to bring home this new addition for Tinsley and are also so thankful for your help in getting it here for her! Our handling class won't be until 2023, but the sooner we are funded the sooner we will know an exact date to be counting down too! π
If you are able, any donation is welcome and appreciated as it'll help us reach our goal of $17,000. If you're unable to donate, we just ask that instead you do something kind for someone else and think about Tinsley & cover her in prayer. This journey has been nothing short of miraculous and with your help we will be able to continue to foster growth and independence for Tinsley ππΆ
