Our Community Reads: Thanks to you!

Our Community Reads is a school based program that fosters a love of reading and literacy in school aged children, and gets books into the hands of students across Wayne County. The program consists of Weekly Reading Rounds, Family Fun Literacy Nights, and Yearly Book Distribution. 

• Weekly Reading Rounds: In 9 school districts around Wayne County, our team of trained readers goes classroom to classroom, reading engaging, age-appropriate, and relevant books to students from Preschool, all the way up to 5th grade (depending on the district).
• Family Fun Literacy Nights: Supplemental to Reading Rounds, Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County partners with our school districts to host Family Fun Literacy Nights. These events consist of extended story time, with the goal of modeling to the families that come as well as engaging the students, supplemental activities, and book giveaways so each student can go home with the gift of a book (or two!). 
• Yearly Book Distribution: In some districts we partner with, we have a Yearly Book Distribution visiting each classroom in the school with the gift of one book for every student. 

Our Community Reads is designed to foster a love for reading with our students, ensuring they have the tools to practice reading on their own, and encouraging parent participation in their child's literacy development. 

Thank you for considering contributing to Our Community Reads and the development of literacy skills in our school-aged children and families. Your gift will help put books directly into the hands of local students and support literacy programming in our schools. Here is what your donation can do: 

• $5,000: Gift of one book for every student in one school or sponsoring a month's worth of Reading Rounds in one school district with two trained readers.
• $1,000: Gift of one book for each student in one grade level in one school, sponsoring a night of book giveaways for a Family Fun Literacy Night, or a week's worth of Reading Rounds in one school district with two trained readers. 
• $500: Gift of one book for each student in one classroom, sponsoring a week of reading rounds for one trained reader, or sponsoring a class for trained readers. 

Together, we can ensure that every child in our community has the tools to build a strong foundation in reading—and a lifelong love of learning. Your support makes it possible for us to reach more students, fill more bookshelves, and create a lasting impact on families across our region. *Our Campaign funds will go into a general fund for Literacy Volunteers of Wayne/Seneca Counties. If you would like your funds to be allocated to a specific program, please indicate so in your donation.
