Black Philanthropy Month Fundraiser

At Pitch Inc. 803, our mission is rooted in dignity, compassion, and community. During Black Philanthropy Month, we are raising funds to support our neighbors facing food insecurity and homelessness right here in the Columbia area.

Across South Carolina and the Carolinas, the burden of hunger falls hardest on Black communities. Recent data shows that 27% of Black individuals in the Carolinas experience food insecurity, compared with 10.5% of white individuals. Food insecurity is not just about missed meals—it is deeply connected to long-term health. In South Carolina, Black adults are more likely to face chronic illnesses that are worsened by lack of access to nutritious food, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

Families and children are also carrying the weight of housing instability. In Richland County and across South Carolina, homelessness continues to affect households with children, disrupting education, health, and emotional well-being. Local schools have identified more than 1,000 students experiencing homelessness under McKinney-Vento protections, reminding us that many children in our own community are navigating uncertainty every day.

• Purchase hygiene essentials for our community partner, the social workers serving neighbors at the downtown Columbia library
• Support families and individuals experiencing hardship with resources that restore dignity and care
• Help fund our annual Thanksgiving food drive, ensuring more families can gather around a warm holiday meal
