I became involved with Gateway Pet Guardians 4 almost 5 years ago when I adopted my first dog, Clementine, from them. I had no idea just how important Gateway and their mission would become to me at that time.
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love Gateway. I have adopted 4 dogs from them, and fostered many more.
Alvin came to the Gateway Pet Guardians and I fell absolutely head over heels for him (who could blame me). He quickly became Dylan’s shadow. He was our longest foster stay, and to be quite honest he almost never left our house we loved him so much.
He had so much personality, and in his mind every single blanket he came across was his. He was heartworm positive and Dylan and I spent the first few weeks we had him worrying around the clock because we just weren’t sure if the complications from his heartworms were something he could recover from. I’d watch him sleep just to make sure his little ribs were moving, if he was covered with a blanket I’d put my hand by his nose to make sure I felt the air going in and out. We had a lot of long nights and a lot of crying, but we believed Alvin would get better. And he did!
We were able to reunite Alvin (actually Pablo) with his dad and I became close to his family while we continued fostering him through his heartworm treatment. They threw a huge bbq with the whole family to welcome him back home.
