Pam Redmond

Transplant Type - Heart

In 1993, soon after the birth of her third child, she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Just five years later, she received more bad news when she had to have a defibrillator implanted due to rapid heartbeats. That same year she got a divorce. For years, she bravely battled heart disease while raising her three children.

Then, she met her true soul mate, Don. They started a life together, but unfortunately, it did not end happily ever after. Just three years after getting married, Don was diagnosed with throat cancer. Pam, who had been a nurse before her health forced her to stop working, took care of him throughout the painful cancer battle. While he beat throat cancer, they were devastated to learn it had spread to his lungs. Pam and Don continued to fight their respective health challenges, and they were elated when they learned the cancer was gone from Don’s lungs. Sadly, a final full-body scan revealed there was cancer in Don’s brain, and he simply no longer had any fight left in him; he passed away in 2008.

Throughout these difficult circumstances, she has relied on her three amazing children—Matthew, Andrew, and Erin—for support. Matthew has served our country proudly in Iraq, and Andrew is a talented artist attending a college for arts. Erin has never known her mother to be well, and she can’t help but worry about her mom’s health. Even while awaiting her lifesaving transplant, Pam continues to think of others. She’s learning the practice of yoga because she hopes to be able to teach others yoga post-transplant, as she believes it truly has positive effects on your mind, body, and spirit. But right now, she needs your help.

The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant itself, she still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they’re as important to her survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Pam. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Delaware Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Pam Redmond" on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
