DAY NINE: Boynton Beach, Florida: We made it!
This Sunday, May 24, author Joey Green and his wife Debbie are driving 3,000 miles from Los Angeles to Florida—an eight-day trip through the heart of darkness during a global pandemic. Call us crazy, but we’ve decided to turn our risky sojourn into a fundraiser to raise $10,000 for FEEDING AMERICA's Coronavirus Response Fund to support food banks across America.
Give whatever you can ($1, $25, $100, or whatever) and we’ll share the thrilling details of our trip with you right here so you’ll feel like you’re riding The Coronavirus Trail alongside us. You'll get a daily dose of the wacky and weird details of our eight-day trip—as we post blogs, bizarre photos, and strange videos along the route. Plus we'll share all our offbeat tips for traveling safely cross country in these strange times.
FEEDING AMERICA's Coronavirus Response Fund helps feed kids affected by school closures, people who have lost their jobs, communities of color, and people with low incomes.
So why on earth are we driving cross-country during this madness?
We sold our house in Los Angeles in February and closed on March 25—with plans to move to Florida… and then—surprise!—a freaky virus shut everything down. While most Americans have been bored out of their skulls under quarantine, we spent the last six weeks packing our 29-year life in California into a Pod in our driveway. The Pod is now on its way to Florida.
On Sunday, we start driving across the country on back roads for a week to get to Boynton Beach, Florida, arriving on June 1 … doing our best to make the trip quirky and fun in the midst of this insanity. For instance, we’ll be spending Joey’s birthday in Roswell, New Mexico, trying to determine if this pandemic was started by aliens. Where will we stay? How will we eat? What weird attractions will we see? Will we get the dreaded disease in route?
To find out… follow us on our Pandemic Adventure as we post real-time photos, videos, and pithy commentary every day right here... You'll not only laugh at our antics, you'll also be helping support food security for kids in need and out-of-work adults during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
