Join the transformation happening in Las Colinas, D.R. by supporting my upcoming mission trip!
raised by 8 people
This March I will be returning to Las Colinas, Dominican Republic, this time with a team from Gordon College! We will continue the work that our partnership with Esther and Tanis Derolus began over a decade ago at Colegio Evangélico Moriah, a school predominantly serving Haitian children and families displaced by the oppressive sugar cane industry (Check out the documentary "The Price of Sugar" for the history of this industry).
There is incredible transformation happening in this community that has grown from a vision Pastor Tanis had on a bus many years ago, and with much prayer and many loving hands, his vision for a school and a church catering to an impoverished population is being fulfilled.
I've been serving with this community since 2013 and have gotten to experience missions in the most relational way: building a partnership and upholding each other continuously as the Body of Christ. I've taught English, Phys Ed, and Art classes, sung songs with my Dominican brothers while sifting sand and painting, and improvised baseball while leading Vacation Bible School by using a bottle cap and a twig. I've had the joy sponsoring a child at the school and the blessing of actually knowing this boy and his family, and having him call me sister. Las Colinas is very special to me, and I'm excited to continue be a part of God's work here with this team from Gordon!
Any contribution to this trip is greatly appreciated!
There are many additional ways to get on board with God's work in Colegio Moriah, helping my team get there financially is just one! Consider praying for this journey, sponsoring a child at the school (https://colegiomoriah.org/get-involved/child-sponsorship/), or even joining a team and experiencing the richness in relationship God has formed here!
