Transplant Type - Kidney
In 2011, she was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. Now, doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting her transplant, she endures regular dialysis treatments, which take a toll on her quality of life. While it’s been difficult for Phyllis to battle these health issues, it has been especially tough on her husband, four children and seven grandchildren, who simply want to see her feel well again. She’s thankful for the love of her supporting family; they’ve even rearranged their schedules to take her to doctors’ appointments and dialysis.
She can no longer enjoy her favorite activities of dancing, cooking and traveling, and she looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to resume her normal, active lifestyle. She’s anxious to eat her favorite foods once again, as her illness forces her to adhere to a very strict diet. More than anything, she dreams of spending many more years creating memories with her loved ones. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they’re as important to her survival as the transplant itself. Because of her declining health, she had to stop working, adding to the financial strain.
