We are a small yet passionately committed group of mother-to-mother volunteers supporting new mothers in distress in our community. Our work is vital and life-changing, and our community has faithfully supported us in the past. Thank you!
We humbly ask for your support again this Mother's Day.
In one week, we are aiming to raise our yearly budget of $7500!
$4000 for our next supply of MiTunes CDs, including our new MiTunes Too! Toddler Tunes
$2500 for future HELPP Provider Scholarships
$1000 for printing new brochures and a new display board for community events
What is Postpartum Distress?:
- Postpartum Distress is the TOP COMPLICATION OF CHILDBIRTH (CDC, PSI)
- Postpartum Distress affects between 1 in 5 and 1 in 3 new mothers and 1 in 10 new fathers in the U.S. (CDC, Yawn 2012)
- Postpartum Distress includes symptoms expressions such as depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD, Psychosis, Perinatal-onset Bipolar Disorder, and Extreme Stress Syndrome
- Postpartum Distress symptoms severity can be reduced by as much as 50% when a suffering mother (or father) chooses to engage in social support
How does Postpartum Society of Florida HELP?:
- Postpartum Society of Florida has been providing mom to mom social support in the Sarasota area since 2012
- Postpartum Society of Florida's weekly MAMAS (Making the Adjustment to Motherhood a Little Smoother) Support Group and Toddler and Tinies Support Group have provided more than 3,500 connects with local moms and families in five years with ONLY FIVE UNPAID VOLUNTEERS
- Postpartum Society of Florida has awarded full registration scholarship through their HELPP Program for mental health professionals to training in Maternal Mental Health treatment to 41 providers statewide in five years
- Postpartum Society of Florida founder Sarah Workman Checcone created and runs the nationally recognized SISTERMom Mentorship Program, the first of its kind, training local veteran moms to be social support mentors for new mothers and is currently connecting new mothers with SISTERMom mentors
- Postpartum Society of Florida has supplied our three local area hospitals and two birthing homes with more than 5,000 MiTunes: Mother-Infant Music CDs AT NO COST to support bonding, lessen stress, increase sleep, and raise awareness about Postpartum Distress and available treatment and resources
- Postpartum Society of Florida has answered hundreds of warmline calls and emails and shared resources for therapists, psychiatrists, doulas, housekeeping, support groups, bus schedules, job opportunities and more
ALL AT NO COST TO THE MOTHERS, FAMILIES, HOSPITALS, OR COMMUNITY - WITH ONLY FIVE VOLUNTEERS AND EIGHT SISTERMOM MENTORS. Say it with me... Moms are amazing.
