💻 COVID - 19 PowerMyLearning Greater Atlanta Response

PowerMyLearning Greater Atlanta has provided technology and digital learning in our community since 2007, deploying over 12,996 home computers. We pro-actively answered the call of districts, nonprofits, and principals in order to address the needs of children without devices for digital learning during this crucial time.

💻 Answering the Call

On March 16th schools throughout the state closed and teachers immediately prepared for virtual learning; immediately we began deploying devices. Currently, an average of 36.5% of students in the 23-county metro area is estimated to be without devices. Our first request came to support 4,745 students since then requests for devices and support have increased by 261% .

  • Each week we fulfill device requests and provide technical support to families in-person at our warehouse which is open five days a week since the city identified us as an essential organization.
  •  Staff and volunteers delivered devices to students’ homes who did not have transportation.
  • We've served families across Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Newton Counties and collaborated with other Non-Profits to serve where the need is greatest.
  • Developed bilingual training modules to help assist parents as they support learning at home.
  • Although we typically focus on students and families, we also prepared and provided tablets to the VA Hospital to assist patients with video calling their loved ones.

💻 The Need

With schools now closed for the remainder of the school year and shelter-in-place orders enacted, it is critical for our most vulnerable and marginalized communities to have access to resources needed for education at home. In addition to the device needs schools have requested refurbishing services, multilingual technical support, and parent training from PowerMyLearning Atlanta.

💻 How You Can Help = #GivingTuesdayNow

We have discovered that times like these expedite the urgency of our work. We need you to help us remove barriers and provide an equitable education for students.  Your support will provide wifi-enabled refurbished laptop computers with MS Office and learning activities directly to the homes of families.  It also allows us to provide bilingual training and help desk support with the laptops.
