Support Theater that brings people together!
Since 1999, Chance Theater has been committed to its mission of contributing to a more connected, compassionate, and creative community through the creation of powerful, provocative, and intimate theater experiences.
This #GivingTuesday, your donation will directly support:
- The continuation of our Virtual Programming that helps keep our community together while we're forced to be apart
- Providing better pay to local professional artists
- Giving a voice to at-risk junior high and high school students, teens on the Autism spectrum, and local veterans through our outreach programs
- Developing new plays and musicals
- New voices in the American Theatre from up-and-coming playwrights
Theater has always been a place for more than entertainment. It's one of the last places where a community can come together and connect with their own neighbors. It's a place where we can embrace our differences and find common ground. Coming to the Chance is like going to a gym for empathy.
The COVID-19 pandemic definitely hurt us -- resulting in the cancellation of multiple shows, a fundraiser, and countless community events -- but we have remained steadfast in our commitment to serving our community.
Since shutting the doors back in March, the Chance Company has:
- Teens Speak Up moved to a digital format for 2020Moved our Speak Up outreach programs to a virtual format to allow for a very important connection with underserved segments of our community during a time when it's needed most.
- Offered Virtual Theater Intensives from a roster of professional artists about Acting, Directing, Designing, and Playwriting.
- Introduced three online video series
- "Some Good News O.C." -- a series that highlights the acts of kindness and other good things that are happening during this awful time.
- "Chance Encounters" -- a talk-show-like series where our optimistic host interviews past artists and a special guest.
- "Stage FAQs" -- a TikTok short-format video series that answers frequently asked questions about the Chance and theater in general
Established online engagement events for our patrons and audiences to come together:
- "Chance Cyber Chats" -- audiences were invited to watch shows online and then join us for free to chat with a Chance Artist panel, a dramaturg, and fellow theater lovers.
- "Broadway Chance Style" -- an intimate evening with Chance and Broadway artists where they share behind-the-scenes stories, sing, and answer all your questions
- Participated in the "Together LA Virtual Festival," along with over 30 other intimate theater companies by producing the 10-minute play, "EDGE." Watch the performance online.
What's next for Chance Theater? Well...
- Chance Artists are contributing their talents to "A Very, Very Chance Holiday Cabaret," which will be available to rent online between December 13, 2020 - January 10, 2021.
- Our Veterans Speak Up program will have a virtual performance on Wednesday, December 30th.
- We will be announcing a 2021 Season soon, which will feature five fully-staged productions. We have pledged that all of the shows will be presented in 2021, whether they be in-person or virtual performances.
- Our staff is working hard to prepare the space for a safe reopening, following CDC guidelines as they become available. We will reopen our doors as soon as it is safe to do so!
Please support the Chance on #GivingTuesday to help ensure that we can continue bringing our community together during this crisis. If you believe that theater can make an impact in the lives of those in your community, please donate what you can. Thank you, and please stay safe so that we can see you again as soon as possible.
