Join us as we celebrate the beginning of a new season and honor our program participants and the shift to virtual programs as a means to meet the needs of our constituents as we continue to serve, educate and nourish our communities.

In response to the pandemic, HLI took a radical turn to provide engaging online programming for underserved school-aged children and middle-school aged youth, adults experiencing homelessness and senior citizens. It's been a nonstop summer, as we provided summer enrichment programs for six weeks, senior and adult shelter programs, all the while, educating and feeding hundreds of youth, adults and families.

We are excited to celebrate alongside the public with a fun, live cooking demonstration from the talented, Christian Irabien, Executive Chef of Muchas Gracias. Chef Christian has previously cooked at HLI events in the past, is dedicated to food justice through his serve with World Central Kitchen and Chef Jose Andres, as well as his time training individuals at La Cocina VA. Currently, Chef Christian has been innovating the restaurant experience in the Covid era, while supporting causes for immigrant relief in the process. Chef Christian will be whipping up a delicious dish, live from Muchas Gracias, as well as providing a special recipe to attendees!

Special live performance from the exceptional, Misha Davidson.

Many in the DC area know Misha from his tireless years recording with a tremendous amount of musicians ranging in genres. Currently residing in LA, Misha has recorded and performed along numerous outfits, with music notably featured on Syd of the Internet's first solo album.

In addition:

HLI youth will be on to join the fun, recite the HLI creed and speak from the heart as to how they've been integral in taking the HLI virtual experience to the next level!

As we're a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit, HLI is reliant on public support:

That means you! Share the link and tell you friends, family and colleagues.

Collaboration is the key for a healthy community and healthy society!

ABOUT EXECUTIVE CHEF CHRISTIAN IRABIÉN - MUCHAS GRACIAS Chef Christian Irabién’s cooking is inspired by his family’s traditions from Chihuahua, Distrito Federal (CDMX) to the coastal states of Veracruz, Yucatán and Guerrero. Chef Irabién served as the Executive Chef at Calavera in Oakland, CA, opening the restaurant in 2015. Calavera earned acclaim for bringing elevated, authentic Mexican cuisine to the Bay Area. Christian spent the previous five years cooking with Chef José Andrés at Oyamel and Chef Cathal Armstrong at Virtue Feed & Grain, where he discovered his love of fine dining and combined it with the traditional flavors he grew up with. Chef Christian’s culinary journey is a deeply personal one and manifests beyond the plate. He helped create and implement the culinary education program for La Cocina VA, an Arlington-based non-profit focused on developing hospitality skills in the low-income, Latin American immigrant community. Recently through his role as Executive Chef of popular pop-up Muchas Gracias, Irabién has focused his efforts on assisting domestic and international causes with a concentration on aiding Latin American immigrants suffering hardships with teams at World Central Kitchen in Tijuana, BC, as well as Tables Without Borders, and Friends and Family Meal. @PincheCocinero
