At the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, every day is undeniably a sexual assault awareness event for us.  And, each April, we take advantage of the special opportunity to highlight our work as a part of the national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

Please stand up for survivors, and support our work.  The Alliance's leads the city's rape crisis sector in developing impactful sexual violence prevention strategies and promoting accessible support services for survivors.  Your support during SAAM helps us uphold this year's theme: Building Connected Communities.

At the Alliance, our "communities" of impact include the city's network of rape crisis programs and other survivor-serving organizations.  Every day we work to foster collaboration and cooperation to improve the response to sexual violence.  Over the past year, we have embarked upon a series of individual meetings with staff at institutions offering sexual assault services to map out the current state of sexual assault response in NYC.  We are developing an analysis based on our data collection that includes identifying underserved geographies and communities.  This project will position the Alliance to advocate for funding and legislation at city, state and federal levels to address these gaps.

This project is so important to us, and so central to our strategy for impact that our team works on the sexual violence service mapping project "on the side."  We do this without funding.  We need support from you - our community of stakeholders and allies - to dedicate the staff time needed to push this project forward.
