In the middle of a neighborhood that was once referred to as one of the most high-violent crime areas in the country, is Ziegler Park, home of the Over-The-Rhine Rhinos, downtown Cincinnati's first youth swim team. Ziegler Park also acts as a venue for day camp when school breaks for the summer and a park for neighborhood children and visitors to play.
Just 3 years ago, the Over-the-Rhine Rhino's had their inaugural season with 35 kiddos and last year they grew to be a team of 43. In addition to the children who have become members of the swim team, Ziegler Park also provides swim lessons and summer camp for children in the downtown Cincinnati area. For many children, their love for swimming begins when they are young and their parents are able to enroll them in swim lessons at a local club. But not all families can afford to join swim clubs and for inner cities families, accessibility tends to be a contributing factor as well.
Over the last two Cincinnati Gives Campaigns, Rhino fanatics Patricia Riegel and Dana Sullivan, have collectively raised just over $10,000 for the Rhinos and with your help and generosity, hope to grow their donations over the next several days.
Last year, the swim committee raised $22,000 for Ziegler Park and the Over-the-Rhine Rhinos. 2020 has been a different and difficult year for everyone, so the team has adjusted their goal accordingly - with that being said please only give what you can and know that any donation and support will be appreciated.
~WE ARE SO VERY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT~
If we reach our goal of $12,500, we can:
- Fully fund free swim lessons for 150 kids and 25 adults
- Provide new suits, goggles, caps for the entire swim team and continue to provide transportation to away swim meets
- Help expand our summer camp to 5 days a week, which helps working parents provide a safe place for their kids this summer
- Fund a nature program for campers to connect them with the outdoors
