PROJECT DETAILS

The renovation includes everything from exterior improvements, an expanded lobby, and a new box office to safety and comfort upgrades, new lighting and sound instruments and software, and increased capacity for audiences and educational programming. The renovation is expected to be completed by Summer 2022.

NVA’s home for the last 14 years, the former Bauer Lumber property at 2787 State Street in the heart of Carlsbad Village, is owned by the City of Carlsbad and has been leased to NVA since 2006. NVA and the City of Carlsbad have agreed to a new long term lease, and as part of the renovation, the City of Carlsbad will be reimbursing NVA for the cost of the reconstruction of the outside walls, upgrading to a new HVAC system, and installing new solar panels.

Planned interior improvements include:

  • An improved theatrical space, including new stage floor, rigging, lighting, and sound equipment.
  • Moving the entrance to the corner of State St & Christiansen Way
  • Moving the Box Office to improve safety and accommodate transactions from both inside and outside
  • Relocating and renovating the restrooms and improving accessibility features throughout the building
  • A larger bar and lobby that can accommodate live entertainment and larger events with enhanced seating options
  • A new, dedicated education center and rehearsal space accessible from State Street
