New Videos, Shorter Timeline!

We're pushing forward quickly! Since the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS) decided on the minimum 30-day comment period instead of longer, our project has been cut down to five weeks total with only 17 days left!

Go to our Red Wolf Conflict Untangled page to see these videos so far:

  1. The Intro Video: Let's Go "Down East"!
  2. A Short History About the Start of the Red Wolf Recovery Program.
  3. Enter the Red Wolf Recovery Area...What's It Like Down East?
  4. The full July 10th Public Hearing About the FWS proposed new rule for the Red Wolf Recovery Program.

We have much more to come over the next couple weeks. Help us create this twice as fast as we originally planned.

Red Wolf Conflict Untangled

Help us explore the endangered red wolf & the fight surrounding it.

We'll meet people on all sides of this conflict because our non-profit, WildSides, is not taking a side. Our job is to share and provide depth to the human stories, perspectives, facts and issues. Our purpose is to enable democratic and free, but informed, debate. We celebrate our differences and highlight our similarities, so we can agree or disagree better and more productively.

You get to have a say in this project with our weekly surveys, social media and by sending messages directly to us. With your help, WildSides will present the most extensive media project about the red wolf ever made, providing more depth into different perspectives than ever before. Together, we will discover and learn.

Urgency: Why Now?

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (the organization that oversees the Red Wolf Recovery Program) just announced, June 27th, that it is "proposing a rule that would remove management efforts from existing private lands and instead focus continuing efforts on certain public lands..." effectively reducing the red wolf recovery area from 1.7 million acres to just over 200,000 acres. The public comment period goes until July 30th, 2018.

WildSides wants everyone to be aware of the issues, perspectives, facts and stories surrounding the red wolf. The more informed we are on all sides, the better our suggestions will be, regardless of your side. We'll go through it all together!

What will your money do?

Your money will help us create at least six documentary-style short films between five and ten minutes in length, organize original research and reports, and produce podcast interviews. All of it will come together in an interactive online format.

Your contribution will help drive more productive conversation about the endangered red wolf and create an important case study about human/wildlife conflict that can be used for a long, long time. Your participation will help show the world that we can still have mature, informed debate about conflict.

This project is vital for every perspective around the red wolf debate ... but its impact will last for years and years!

Why WildSides?

We are proud to be the only media project that has fully explored different sides of the red wolf issue. Since 2011, we have filmed with people on the ground where the only wild population of red wolves roam: northeastern North Carolina. In 2012, we published 40+ minutes of short films delving into many stakeholders' perspectives and stories. We are honored that all the players continue to invite us back in 2018. And, with your involvement, we will create new short films, discuss opinions through podcasts and delve into the facts of the related issues.

We are lucky to have very successful environmental, economic, social, business, conservation and solution-building expertise within our non-profit organization. So we, quite literally, are made for this!

Awards & Recognition:

WildSides creates high quality, award-winning media. Our educational and documentary films have won awards for "Best Conservation Message", "Best Feature Film", "Diversity in Film" and our most recent film, Staring Down Fate, was an official selection for five film festivals!

You get the comfort of knowing that, when you donate to WildSides, we'll take your dollar further. We are passionate about telling stories from all sides of the issue and providing the facts. We want to help us all understand each other better in order to agree or disagree with each other more productively, so we can all concentrate on the issues.
