As we come to the end of the 2017 fundraising campaign...

Update posted 7 years ago

As we wind down 2017, I want to thank everyone that has donated to my effort to help raise funds for Environmental Educators of North Carolina. Those that know me, know how much I value this organization: our members, the work we do, and the EE community in NC.

Thanks to your generosity, I met and exceeded my goal.  I raised my goal, and met and exceeded THAT goal.  As an organization, we met our original goal of raising $12,000.  It was in early December - so we decided to challenge our all-volunteer organization and shoot for $20,000 by January 1.

I am here to tell you that we are only $659 from meeting that $20,000 goal for our organization.  Can you believe it??!! So if you value environmental education and think EE should remain at the forefront of education, with the best trained professionals delivering programs, please share our fundraiser with your friends.  Especially those that might be looking for one more 501c3 to donate to before the end of the year.  Donations this year are tax-deductible!!

Thank you again for your support, and here's to 2018!!

Do you remember a nature-filled childhood? Did you spend time riding bikes, running in fields, climbing trees, playing in streams, and stargazing? Who were the adults that led you on adventures, and helped you build your connection to nature?

For me, it was my parents. That is them in the picture on the top of my page, on their way to the top of a mountain somewhere! Because of them, I had a free-roaming childhood and spent hours exploring our neighborhood with friends. Family vacations were often trips to National Parks, spent around campfires, and fishing.

Many of today's youth do not have these experiences and are one of the first generations to grow up almost entirely indoors.   We are losing our connection with the natural world, which means it is difficult to foster care and concern towards the environment.  Yet today's children, your children or grandchildren, will inherit and will have to address, complicated environmental issues facing our world.

Environmental education (EE) is a solution.  I have served on the Board of Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC) since 2011, and I believe strongly in our mission to build connections, provide professional development, and promote excellence in environmental education.  This picture is of our Board during our conference this year, demonstrating our love for EE and EENC! Your donation with help us provide and promote programs and resources to help teach about our environmental systems, understand humans' role in environmental issues, and build critical thinking skills needed to address complex environmental issues  to find solutions.  Supporting Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC) in our annual campaign will help grow environmental education in North Carolina, and support our vision to  inspire those we work with to create an environmentally literate citizenry.
