We got work to do!
We have been a very hard working small but mighty conservation non-profit! This season we completed 100 Fly Ranch Nature Walks, 24 weekends of Site Stewardship, and 13 events and programs!
That translates into 1,800 people experiencing the Black Rock Desert through the talented facilitation of our Fly Ranch Docent volunteers. And another 1,000 who stopped by at our Visitor Center in Gerlach, NV to learn about the area, pick up maps, and share their experiences in our unique and breathtaking public lands.
We simply could not have achieved this without the support of our outstanding volunteers and members.
We can do more. We need your help to do more!
Why? Because years of Covid shutdowns, a lack of structured events, and a pent-up interest in outdoor recreation the Black Rock is drawing in more people than ever before.
In 2022 we will need to be prepared to counter the intentional and unintentional consequences of long-term campers, off-road vehicles, large events, and day-trippers.
Now is the time to help. It is time to replace our dilapidated or outdated tools and gear and update our first aid kits. We need to purchase new gloves and magnetic rakes and post-hole diggers. We need to update our emergency communication systems, replace our radios and purchase new spring monitoring and citizen science kits. We need to recognize the efforts of our volunteer teams, who often drive 200 plus miles to dig out old fences, re-naturalize roads and remove firepits.
Help us provide essential items to our volunteers, AmeriCorps members and staff so they can be safe, secure, and have the support they need. Help us provide gas vouchers and meals to the folks who drive hundreds of miles to work in this sublime but harsh desert.
