Robert Henderson, Jr.
Transplant Type: Kidney
Robert Henderson, Jr., is awaiting a new lease on life. He was diagnosed with diabetes in 1990. Robert was able to keep his diabetes under control until 2015. At that time, he began to lose feeling in his hands and feet and suffered from severe edema. Robert was diagnosed with stage-4 kidney failure and ended up having to have his right leg amputated, as well as the toes on his left foot. Unfortunately, kidney disease runs in his family, and both of his parents passed away from it. Robert has been on dialysis since 2016, which leaves him tired and has taken a toll on his quality of life. He now faces end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. Before he can receive a transplant, his transplant center is requiring him to raise funds.
During this difficult time, Robert is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends. He has a grown son and an 8-year-old granddaughter, and his illness prevents him from being the active father and grandfather he longs to be. Robert looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can travel, visit his family in New York, and enjoy taking his granddaughter to theme parks. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Robert is unable to work due to his declining health, further adding to his financial burdens.
