Roberto A. Banda
Transplant Type: Kidney
Roberto Banda is awaiting a new lease on life. Several years ago, Roberto was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a rare kidney disease. He knew he faced kidney failure due to FSGS and diabetes, but his doctor expected the progression to be slow.
Unfortunately, by 2016, he was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. Since then, he’s been on dialysis, which takes a toll on his quality of life and leaves him very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical for his survival. His transplant center is requiring him to fundraise to cover some of his medical expenses.
During this difficult time, Roberto is thankful for the love and support of his wife of 29 years, Sara, and their family and friends. Together, Roberto and Sara have three adult children and two grandsons. His family worries about his health, but it has also brought them closer together. Roberto looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him more time with his family.
Roberto’s health and dialysis schedule prevent him from being as active as he longs to be. He wants nothing more than to have many more years with his family and watch his grandchildren grow up.
But right now, he needs your help. The average kidney transplant costsmore than $414,000, and that’sonly the beginning.
Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Roberto still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications.
Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Roberto’s declining health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Roberto. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazens Cir, Ste 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Roberto Banda” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
